Mixmag Asia

Not just for festivals anymore (because there are no festivals), kimonos are making their way into our everyday lives. Whether you’re travelling, working from home, lounging around or simply looking to elevate your grocery-store-run outfit, kimonos are our favourite go-to (if you asked us at this time last year, we might have said they were an afterparty staple). If you’re inspired by this vibe, then you’re certainly heard of Origin of Hearts. And if you follow them on Instagram, you might have seen them teasing and dropping hints alluding to a long-awaited new collection — and last Friday it finally arrived.

In all its kimono splendour, OOH. Collection Satori lands with the same high-end silk fabrics that we’ve grown to love so much but in a new range of prints. In keeping with the brand’s well-established traditions, the collection retains its superconscious resort aesthetic which 100% of its pieces made ethically and slowly in Indonesia.

THE A-LIST BY MIXMAG ASIA: RUNNING YOU THROUGH WHAT'S RED-HOT IN ASIA THIS FEBRUARY

With festival season being a year-round affair in Asia, acquiring a closet full of kimonos is common practice, and we're always looking for the next best cape. We recently stumbled upon Origin Of Hearts who are a super conscious resort wear brand made sustainably and ethically in Bali. We spotted several at Wonderfruit last year and we were delighted to discover that they kicked off the new year with a new collection. Called 'Casa De Verano', the collection keeps nature and its forces in mind, bringing classic styles that are juxtaposed across the background of equally timeless designs. The brand also added new colour-ways and a few new styles to their already sleek collection of unisex kimono shirts, shorts and more. Your next festival outfit = sorted.

BEYOND THE MUSIC: THE FANTASTICAL BRANDS REIGNING SUPREME ON FESTIVAL FASHION

The sun is always shining somewhere in Asia, and that means festival season is in full swing year-round. More than just music and bacchanalia, festivals have become extravagant platforms for artistic expression after transformative events like Burning Man unequivocally upped the ante when it comes to festival fashion. Outlandish kimonos and elaborate costumes briefly replace black jeans and sneakers, and even those who typically take an anti-fashion approach often find themselves engaged.

And as we creep on the cusp of peak season with festivals like Wonderfruit, Epizode, Colours of Love, and more on the horizon, we shine a spotlight on the show-stopping brands from which women and men can get their kimonos, kaftans and other kitsch, beginning with those based in Asia to those that at least ship here.

FIVE WAYS TO HAVE AN ECO-FRIENDLY FESTIVAL EXPERIENCE

You are what you wear

Festival fashion is synonymous with fast fashion. Sadly, there aren’t many of us that can wear our favourite festival garms to the office, if you are, then we salute you! The result is thousands of clothes that are only worn once and never again.

When you’re hunting for that jaw-dropping festival outfit, there’s no harm in checking out the brand’s sustainability policy. Slow fashion brands have a considerably less impact on the environment but look just as chic.

For example, Origin of Hearts works with local artisans to handcraft beautiful, vibrant Kimonos. For us, they’re perfect for Glastonbury, full of colour and life, but also keep the sun off your shoulders.

Green Is The New Black

The best brands to keep your festival fashion eco-friendly!

As we enter an eco-conscious era where we need to be rethinking that way in which we navigate through our daily lives, that doesn’t mean we have to stop having fun. It does mean that we need to change the way we have fun, but we like to think of that as elevating our creativity.

And when it comes to festivals, that mean retaining our shopping habits without sacrificing the fun of putting together outfits.
